About 80-20+

Civic education, without the spin.

80-20+ is a nonprofit that helps Greater Pittsburgh residents understand how their government actually works, so they can check the record themselves.

Our mission

We believe residents make better decisions when they understand the process, not just the headlines. That means plain-language explainers of how government works, sourced voting records with no ranking or scorecard attached, and links to free, vetted resources from established educational organizations. We don't tell you how to vote — we give you what you need to decide for yourself.

Funding & transparency

80-20+ is organized as a 501(c)(4) social welfare nonprofit. Contributions to 80-20+ are not tax-deductible. We are affiliated with, but legally separate from, a political action committee that engages in electoral advocacy.

How we work

Every piece we publish follows the same editorial standard.

Sourced

Every claim links back to a primary source — a bill, a vote record, a public filing.

Non-ranking

We report votes and positions. We don't score, rate, or endorse candidates.

Plain language

Explainers written for a general audience, without legal or procedural jargon.

Board of directors

80-20+ is governed by a volunteer board.
